I trained in architecture at Edinburgh College of Art, and I have  alternated between art and architecture throughout my career.

I began my artistic career producing watercolours to commission as a student, and have since gone on to practice in a variety of media.

My work has always been concerned with capturing an essence of light – reflected in water, caught in twilight or dusk, playing off buildings. When the light changes, at sunset, or sunrise, or on a stormy day, is the moment where I am uplifted and energised.

More recently I have developed an interest in serial paintings - whether it be Diptychs or Triptychs or even longer series.

It allows me to paint beyond the canvas, and adds a feeling of continuity to my painting - a series of moments in time, building up a worldview, rather than a static point. Serial painting can start with a point based in reality and extend to a point that is purely imaginary, a world as it might have been rather than is.

While my main focus is fine art painting, I also work in illustration, producing drawings in a variety of media for clients such as Historic Sotland and Awakening Film Productions. Examples can be seen in the illustration part of the website.
